Mae Sot, Thailand Outreach
This was my first missions trip and it was a very fun one.
The first day we went to a refugee camp. We sang songs, did face painting, and balloon animals.
The second day we went a lot of Churches and my daddy preached. And then we drove back to the hotel and slept.
On the third day headed towards a Bible School made out of bamboo in the refugee camp it was huge and I thought it was the most amazing thing I had saw in Thailand but after that something was even more amazing. After that we saw the land mine victims and we sang songs to them and they sang songs to us. Many of them were blind and didn't have arms or legs. Then we got in the van and drove to a small and poor school. I got off the van and started walking down the path to the poor school and on the way there I had to walk on rocks across a big puddle and I saw many ducks. Then on the way to the school I saw some chicks. When I got to the school we sang songs and played games. After that we told them the story of Jonah and the whale using balloons. After that we went to a orphanage and I gave my testimony about how God answered my prayer.
On the fourth day we had to do the whole day at a school for over two hundred teenagers. I was helping someone else teach art to twenty-two kids. She asked me if I could teach eleven of them art. I thought it would be fun, so I went inside a classroom and taught them art. I taught them how to draw Mickey mouse and Donald duck.
I thought this missions trip was fun and I want to go on some other missions trip someday again! I think missions trips are good to go on because you get to tell people more about Jesus and you also get to have lots of fun! I am glad that I went on the missions trip because I told these people about Jesus.

I just found this lost post. I'm not a computer person. Yes I did take the bus form Chiang Mai to Mae Sot. (6 hrs or so) There is an airport across from the bus depot, but didn't notice it was vacant. If you take the train, get a sleeper! It's a long ride. Tasanee now has about 200+ people in her camp due to the conflict across the river. They could still use any help.
Hi, I've been searching for a missions organization or church to go on a mission trip to any of the refugee camps in Thailand. I found this page and I'm wondering how or through what organization you went through to get there?
I work for a refugee resettlement organization in NC and want to get first hand experience of what my clients go through. Any information or leads would be really appreciated!
Laurel; I just saw your post. I am a holistic health care practitioner in St.Louis, Mo. Last May I visited the "Safe Haven" orphanage outside of Mae Sot. The lady that runs the place is named Tasanee (pronounced Tess' a nee) Her local ph# is 087-206-0360. They are about 2 hrs outside of Mae Sot up in the mountains, and about 200 yds. from the Burma border. They could use any help anybody can offer. They picked me up at the bus sta. and drove me to the orphanage. From Bangkok to Mae Sot by train is 13 hrs. Best to fly in. The air port is across the road from the bus sta. Feel free to contact me at any time.
Are you sure you can fly to Mae Sot? There is an airstrip but as far as I know , there are no flights into Mae Sot from anywhere. The airport has not been used for commercial flights for a few years now. I also don't believe there are any trains to Mae Sot. The only way one can get to Mae Sot is by bus, no planes or trains.
If I were you I would contact Shane Abrahams. He lives there and works with the Karen people. His website is:
http://www.shaneabrahams.com
And Facebook:
http://www.facebook.com/shaneabrahams
Hope this helps.
Another organization would be http://partnersworld.org/. They helped me gained access to Mae La refugees camp and I will be going there for the 4th time this August. As far as visiting refugees camp, Mae La camp might be the one that doesn't require prior approval by the Thai? authorities for visitation. Others are not as easy for entry I was told.
Caleb, I am very proud of you and what you did on your first mission trip. You are a very special little boy; and come from two special people who are very dear to me. You will meet sisters and brothers in Christ all over the world, and you are so lucky to travel to them. Continue shining your little light; you may be the only Bible some of these people may ever read!!!!! Love, Aunt Deb
Hey Caleb!
I am Lisa who visited you with my husband at the DTS 05
I don't know if you still remember us, but now we have a
little son called Reghuel (a hard word I know) :)
We live in Germany now, and your mum and dad send me
your guys's updates, so I came along reading your's, even
I am very busy with important stuff, and God let me read your
comment still. So I thought why can't I read so many others
updates, of our many friends, but come and be able to read your's
and God showed me his heart was for me to read your's, cause
it's so special to him!
You have a personal Jesus on your side Caleb, may you love him
in your heart. He loves you already!
With lots of Joy and blessing to you Caleb!
You're a surviver, even in hard regions!
-Lisa
P.S.: I am sorry to not be able to upload a picture for you here,
but I may be able to send you one per email. :) bye Caleb!
Hey Caleb! You were awesome on the trip! Thanks for all that you did - esp for your testimony, for the art class, and for your prayers!! God bless. Andrew.
